Is it true those who are diagnosed as BIPOLAR should not take antidepressants?

Any experiences on this? Good? Bad? Ugly? Helpful?

  • I think it is true. I tried to have my doctor prescribe antidepressants and he said that I was not depressed all the time and that it was situational. He said that I needed to work on coping techniques. So writing more. Working out my thoughts more. Avoiding those who stress me out.

  • I love to be manic too but it is toxic. So thank you for explaining. I've been taking mood stabilizer. I want to ask my doctor for topamax because it helps with weight loss and helps bipolar type. But my doctor thinks it's too many meds. He is a good doctor who listens.

  • I'll definitely be asking about Effexor!! Thank you for that information. If it's an antidepressant that we can take I'll look into it!!
